Centers and Institutes

Centers and institutes play a valuable function in organizing activities for groups of people who wish to work together in teaching, research, and/or outreach on specialized topics. There are currently more than 250 centers and institutes recognized by UW-Madison, as listed on the university’s List of Approved Centers and Institutes.

For information on establishing, changing, or discontinuing a center or institute, refer to the KnowledgeBase page on Centers, Institutes, and Center-Like Units, as well as policy UW-1002 Establishing, Evaluating, and Changing Centers and Institutes.

There is also a template available to support the creation of a new center or institute, which can be used as the basis of a proposal.
